Questions We Get Asked
If yours isn’t here, call us at 843.352.3420. We’re happy to talk it through before you book anything.
Getting Started
I’ve never been to a chiropractor. Where do I start?
Book a first visit and tell us what’s going on. We’ll listen, examine, explain what we found in plain language, and give you a recommendation. You’re not committing to anything beyond that first appointment.
Do I need a referral?
No. You can book directly with us.
How long is the first visit?
Plan on more time than a regular visit, since we’re doing the full conversation and exam. Filling out your paperwork at home ahead of time keeps it moving.
What should I wear?
Whatever’s comfortable. You won’t need to change into anything.
The Adjustment Itself
Does it hurt?
No. Our primary technique uses a handheld instrument that delivers a light, precise impulse. Most patients describe it as a gentle tap.
Will I hear a cracking sound?
Not with Torque Release Technique. There’s no twisting and no popping. If the idea of being cracked is what’s kept you away from chiropractic, this is a very different experience.
Will I be sore afterward?
Some patients feel a mild soreness for a day, similar to after a workout. Many feel nothing but better. Both are normal.
How many visits will I need?
It depends entirely on what’s going on and how long it’s been going on. We’ll give you a specific recommendation after your exam, along with what it costs, and you decide from there.
Once I start, do I have to keep going forever?
No. Plenty of patients come in for a specific problem, get it resolved, and we see them occasionally after that. Others choose ongoing care because they like how they feel. It’s your call, and we’ll tell you honestly where we think you are.
Kids and Pregnancy
Is chiropractic safe for my baby?
Adjusting a child looks nothing like adjusting an adult. No twisting, no cracking, and a fraction of the pressure. Many babies sleep right through it, and you’re welcome to hold your child the entire time.
How young is too young?
We see babies in their first weeks of life. The technique scales to the child in front of us.
Can I be adjusted while pregnant?
Yes, and our table and pregnancy pillows let you lie comfortably face down, which most mamas haven’t been able to do in months. Dr. Alyssa holds advanced certification in Webster Technique and Dr. Alex is Webster trained.
Can I bring my kids to my appointment?
Please do. The office is built for it.
Shockwave Therapy
What does shockwave treat?
Stubborn soft-tissue pain, most often plantar fasciitis and heel pain, shoulder and rotator cuff pain, tennis and golfer’s elbow, and knee and hip tendon pain.
How many sessions does it take?
Most cases run 4 to 6 sessions. We’ll tell you where we think your case lands after the mapping exam.
Do I have to be a chiropractic patient to get shockwave?
No. Plenty of our shockwave patients have never been adjusted.
Cost and Insurance
Do you take insurance?
Yes, we accept most major insurance plans. Give us a call at 843.352.3420 or stop by and we’ll run a complimentary benefits check so you know what your coverage looks like before you commit to anything.
Is shockwave covered by insurance?
Shockwave is self-pay and isn’t billed to insurance. We’ll give you the full cost before you decide to move forward.
What will it cost me?
You’ll know the whole number before you commit to anything. We go over your recommended plan and its cost at your first visit, and nobody gets a surprise at the front desk.
